  • The student will learn various tools and techniques for avoiding runway incursions.

  • Discuss the dangers of a runway incursion with an emphasis on general aviation runway incursion statistics
  • Demonstrate how to perform a taxi brief with an emphasis on hot spots
  • Discuss additional factors that can contribute to runway incursions such as sterile cockpit, night operations, low visibility, and nontowered airports

Student Actions

  • Develop a plan for sterile cockpit with an emphasis on runway incursion avoidance
  • Copy and read back simulated taxi instructions then perform a taxi brief
  • Demonstrate how to find the reason for a given hot spot on an airport

  • Explain, in their own words, strategies for reducing the risk of runway incursions
