Overview
Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the column of air above a given location in the atmosphere. As weather patterns move through the atmosphere, this value can change significantly. Atmospheric pressure is vital to many areas of aviation. At a minimum, measuring pressure is useful for making weather forecasts, calculating aircraft performance, and actuating the pitot-static flight instruments.
