General Airworthiness

Overview

The federal regulations prohibits any person from operating an aircraft that is not in an airworthy condition. According to 14 CFR 3.5, the term airworthy explicitly means that the aircraft in question conforms to its original type design and is in a safe condition for flight. All discussions of whether an aircraft is airworthy should begin and end with this definition. The pilot-in-command is the individual responsible for this determination.
