Overview
Lapse Rate is defined as a change in temperature with height. The International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) defines Lapse Rate as a 2° C decrease per 1,000 ft. of altitude. The atmospheric lapse rate is the most important aspect that determines atmospheric stability. Lapse rate is also useful in aircraft performance calculations.
