Overview
Gas can get trapped in various places including the middle ear, sinuses, teeth, and lungs. During climbs and descents, as the atmospheric pressure changes, any air that is trapped will expand or contract. If this air has nowhere to escape, the pressure can be very painful and make piloting the aircraft very difficult.
