Pilot Qualifications
Objectives
- The student will be introduced to the privileges, limitations, and responsibilities of holding a private pilot certificate.
- The student will learn to keep track of their flight experience in order to maintain recent flight experience requirements.

- Demonstrate how to look up private pilot privileges in the Federal Aviation Regulations
- Verify the student is in possession of the documentation required for both student pilot and private pilot privileges
- Discuss techniques for keeping a logbook neat, orderly, and up-to-date
- Discuss the difference between proficiency and currency
Student Actions
- Determine the legality of a flight for a given scenario based on private pilot privileges
- Calculate the expiration date of their medical certificate
- Calculate logbook totals for all previous flight experience
- Determine the aeronautical experience requirements remaining prior to taking the practical test
- Set personal minimums for solo flight (if applicable)
Completion Standards
- The student demonstrates understanding of certification requirements, currency, privileges, and limitations of the private pilot certificate
- The student demonstrates understanding of the documents required to exercise private pilot privileges
- The student demonstrates the ability to mitigate risks by discussing the difference between proficiency and currency
- The student demonstrates the ability to apply requirements to act as PIC under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) in a scenario given by the instructor
